Parquetry - Geometric Patterns with Wood Veneer : Part 1

$190.00

** This is a three-part class series

Wednesdays Evenings, 6:30-9:30pm

Parquetry is the craft of creating tessellating patterns with wood veneer.  It is incredibly easy to learn and highly adaptable to a variety of purposes from surface decoration for furniture, down to coasters or Christmas ornaments.  The design vocabulary and the applications are really limited only by the imagination.

This Parquetry class will be taught across three evenings.  The first class meeting will be, by far, the most in-depth of the three.  In the first class, students will be shown examples of past projects, be introduced to the tools and techniques needed to create a parquetry project, and will have time to practice with the same.  Students will be sent home with all supplies and equipment needed to continue working on their project at home across the next week.  If any questions arise, the instructor will be happy to assist.

The second class session will be relatively brief, limited to pressing the completed designs to a backer board and watching a live demonstration on sanding and finishing.  Students will need to return a day or two after the second class to pick up their project after it comes out of the press, then work at home across the next several days to slowly build up the finish.

The final class will also be relatively brief, as it will consist of cutting down projects to finished size and "finishing the finish" as a final step.

All materials are provided.

** Classes are transferable up to 48 hours before class, but not refundable.
