This is a two-session class - you must complete Part 1 and Part 2 to complete your own cutting board.

End-grain cutting boards and chopping blocks are preferred by professional chefs and butchers worldwide; they last longer and keep knives sharper. In this two-day class, participants will learn experiment with new skills and take home an original work of art.
This is an entry-level class in which students will design and assemble their cutting board to glue and clamp. The second class will involve sanding and sealing with a food-grade finish. There are no moving blades in this class instruction.
This class is highly recommended for anyone who needs an unusual wedding or birthday gift.
In Session 1 participants will:
· Learn to distinguish end grain from edge grain;
· Discover their inner designer (do you prefer random or ordered patterns??)
· Assemble their creation and use clamps to glue them together.

* The difference between the warp and weft and how to set up a loom
* All the various stitches including plain weave, soumak, and rya knots
* How to add fringe and tassels

Fiber artist Jennifer Fleischer is the owner and founder of Ibu Textiles, a line of woven products created in Nashville, TN. She designs and weaves each unique piece by hand. With the use of floor and frame looms, she blends traditional and experimental techniques. Her current work exhibits a strong design aesthetic inspired by Jennifer’s experiences seeking peace and calm in an urban environment. Book Arts for Beginners: Pamphlet Stitch and Accordion Books
Saturday, November 12th - 1-5pm
Teaching artist, Lesley Patterson-Marx, will guide you in learning the basic skills to make your own books without paste or glue. Students will begin with learning the pamphlet stitch, and accordion book, and will conclude with a book called “The Hybrid Travel Journal,” that combines both pamphlet and accordion structures in a delightful way. All levels of experience are welcome in this beginner course. All supplies are included.
